Miley Cyrus – “Zombie” by The Cranberries

Miley Cyrus Continues Her Reign of Rock With a Haunting Cover of “Zombie” by The Cranberries

Miley Cyrus’s covers collection is expanding after her Oct. 17 performance at NIVA’s Save Our Stages Fest in Los Angeles. The singer chose tracks that fit right in line with her recent rock era — especially her rendition of “Zombie” by The Cranberries, which is not to be missed.

Cyrus’s set comes on the heels of weeks full of covers, from her recent Backyard Sessions to her “Heart of Glass” performance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. It’s a true talent to turn another artist’s song into something of your own, and Cyrus is definitely flexing that muscle. Her “Zombie” moment leans heavily into a heavy, haunting rock sound that clearly pulls from Dolores O’Riordan’s original vocals while giving the song a new twist.

In addition to “Zombie,” Cyrus also performed “Boys Don’t Cry” by The Cure and her own track, “Midnight Sky.” Watch the set in full above, or skip ahead to 3:10 to start with the Cranberries tribute.

Miley Cyrus Is Making a Metallica Cover Album, and We’re Ready For Her Version of Heavy Metal

If you thought you’d heard the last of Miley Cyrus’s covers, think again. In an Oct. 19 interview with Interview magazine, Cyrus revealed that she’s currently working on a Metallica cover album. “We’re so lucky to be able to continue to work on our art during all of this. At first, it felt uninspiring and now I’ve been totally ignited,” she told the outlet. Details about the album, including who she’s working with, the release date and title, and what songs will be included, have yet to be revealed.

Over the years, Cyrus has proved that she’s able to tackle any and every genre from country to grunge – most recently with her haunting cover of The Cranberries’ “Zombie.” If you’re wondering whether she’ll do the heavy-metal Metallica justice, this won’t be the first time she has covered the band; in 2017, she performed a version of their song “Nothing Else Matters” at Glastonbury.
